Syed Ali Hamadani holds a prominent place in the promotion of Islam in the subcontinent. He was not onlya great Sufi saint but also a scholar, writer, and social reformer. The Kashmiri artisans who accompanied him brought with them the subtleties of architecture, the skill of woodcarving, and the colors of Kashmiri culture. Architectural Beauty

The structure of this mosque is built with a framework of wood and stones, giving it natural strength. Inside, a central pillar supports the roof. On the eastern wall, two carved windows are decorated with exquisite craftsmanship, while on the western side is a mihrab (architecture) that determines the direction of the Qibla for worshippers.

The roof is the most striking feature of this mosque. It consists of two layers: the inner part is straight, composed of a wooden roof visible to worshippers, while the outer part is sloping, above which a Tibetan-style minaret is installed. This unique combination not only enhances the  beauty of the mosque but also protects it from  the elements.

Carvings and Cultural Influences

The carvings on the pillars and beams of this mosque are a perfect study for any art lover. They combine Kashmiri floral designs, Tibetan-style lettering, and Mughal influences. The paintings on the projecting beams of the ceiling break the monotony of the building and amaze the viewer.

Journey from Monastery to Mosque

Initially, this place was used as a monastery where Sufis and students used to sit and learn, meditate, teach, and receive spiritual training. Over time, this monastery was transformed into a mosque, and its original spiritual atmosphere is still preserved. An example of this transformation is the entrance gallery, which was modified and elevated over time for greater comfort.
