This lake is located in the eastern range of Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain in the world. The Astore area was a taluka of Diamer district until 2005, when it was subsequently granted district status. The Astore area is home to more than 50 villages, both small and large, including Chilam, Boban, Gorikot, Eidgah, Fina, Balan, Chungra, and Parshang.

A Trip to Lake Rama: A Unique Experience

The trip to Lake Rama is an interesting and engaging adventure. The distance from the town of Astore to Lake Rama is about 13 kilometers, but it should take at least two hours to cover, as the entire route consists of a dirt road that runs between mountain rocks and dense forests.

During the journey, you will see three small lakes, called "Sarot" in the local language (Sheena). These lakes offer a panoramic view of Lake Rama.

Please note that mobile coverage is poor during the trip, so it is advisable to make arrangements in advance. The lush vegetation and natural beauty of Rama Valley

Rama Valley is famous for its dense forests, where ancient and tall pine, cypress, fir, and juniper trees seem to touch the sky. This valley remains covered in a white blanket of snow for 7 or 8 months a year. But when the snow melts in summer, the entire valley transforms into a green meadow. It is during this time that Makali shepherds come here with their herds and camp.

A beautiful and serene view of Lake Rama.

When you finally reach Lake Rama, the view will take your breath away. The crystal-clear waters of the lake, which seem to bathe in blues, greens, and turquoise when the sunlight illuminates them at different times of the day, offer a unique and enchanting landscape.

The towering snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and lush green valleys surrounding the lake enhance its beauty. This landscape amazes the viewer with the creative power of nature.

The eastern slope of Nanga Parbat, also known as "Killer Mountain," is visible from Lake Rama. Experienced mountaineers can also hike up Nanga Parbat from here.

Lake Rama Season: When is the best time to go?

Rama Lake's climate remains extremely cold for most of the year.

Winter (November to April):  During this period, heavy snowfall occurs, and the entire valley is covered in a thick layer of snow. The landscape is very picturesque, but due to the intense cold and the risk of avalanches, this period is not suitable for tourism.

This festival serves as a platform for polo teams from different districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Thousands of tourists and locals gather here to participate. In addition to polo matches, local dance and music performances are also held, as well as other cultural events. If you want to enjoy this unique cultural experience, plan your trip during this festival.
